The role of psychoanalysis is to decipher the unconscious, to develop meaning to the symptoms that have accompanied us throughout our lives. It is to rewrite our story through words.

My interest in working with expatriates and others cultures arose from some personal questions about the peculiarities of life outside of one’s country of origin, particularly the role of language. The definition of an expatriate is outside of the homeland, outside of the ‘fatherly and maternal’ references.

The feeling of belonging to a nation, the identification with the culture plays an organizing role, it gives us a direction. When we are outside of this direction, a whirlwind of feelings emerges, to which, for some, only the mother tongue will have the vocabulary to give meaning.

The virtual space today allows us to keep in touch with our family, friends, our culture and why not an analytical set where you will be the protagonist?

I conclude the definition of psychoanalysis and the life of an expatriate with the poem by Drummond where he says: the search for the word and password of life as incessant.

THE MAGIC WORD

A specific word sleeps in the shadow
of a rare book.
How can I disenchant it?
It is the password of life
the password of the world.
I will search for it.

I will search for it all my life
throughout the world.
If it takes a long time to find it, if I don’t find it,
I will always search.

I will always search, and my search
will become
my word.
